A ‘very well liked’ member of Mildenhall Parish Council died at West Suffolk Hospital, yesterday.

Cllr Mike Ball had served on the council since April 2007, he was a member of every council committee and chaired the planning committee.

Parish Clerk Val Shrimpton described Cllr Ball as a ‘very well liked’ and ‘active’ councillor.

Cllr Ball was a Squadron Leader in the RAF before joining the council and organised the popular annual Band Concert held in the Jubilee Centre.

Mildenhall Parish Councillor John Barker said: “He will be sorely missed for his calmness and quiet thinking not least over planning matters where he set an exemplary style of chairmanship

“We shall realise as the days go on what a treasure we had in our midst - one who really exemplified the phrase an officer and a gentleman.”

Cllr Barker said his thoughts were with Cllr Ball’s family.
