A CONCERT staged by the St Edmunds Male Voice Choir has raised £14,500 for two army charities.

The choir and the Minden Band of the Queen’s Division put on a performance at Tattersalls in Newmarket earlier this year and the money raised was divided between the Royal Anglian Benevolent Charity and Help for Heroes.

The concert was organised by the choir secretary Richard Everett whose grandson Mark Allen was seriously injured in Afghanistan in January 2010 while serving with the Royal Anglian’s 1st battalion.

Mark, who was 21 earlier this month, is currently undergoing rehabilitation at Hedley Court.

Mr Everett. a retired bank manager, has been a member of the choir for 23 years and presented the cheque for £7,348.66 to Lt Col Mick Aston, commanding officer of the 1st battalion.
