VILLAGERS in Elmswell have celebrated the opening of a £590,000 extension to its community centre.
The extension to the Blackbourne Hall comes 13 years after the opening of the original building and includes a large activity hall and two meeting rooms.
It was funded through £125,000 of parish council reserves, a £175,000 grant from the Elmswell Amenities Association, and a £250,000 loan from the Goverment’s public works load board.
A further £40,000 from the amenities association paid towards a ground source heat pump which will heat the extension and eventually the main building, through an underfloor heating system.
Elmswell won the Suffolk Acre Community Award for the extension project.
