A SOCIAL group has raised hundreds of pounds for a children’s cancer charity from its activities over the past year.

The Women’s Guild of Friends, in Bury St Edmunds, presented £550 to Clic Sargent at a meeting last month.

The money was collected through events such as a cake stall, fete and raffles.

The group, which meets at the Oddfellows Hall, in Whiting Street, on the fourth Monday of the month at 2.30pm, collects for a different charity every year. Former chairman Thelma Emmerson, who chose the cancer charity, said: “We do quite well considering they’re mostly pensioners who attend the meetings.”

New chairman Pam Hart has also picked Clic Sargent as the group’s beneficiary this year.
