A GROUP of super-slimmers who have shed 500 stone between them have been nominated as one of the world’s best.
Global dieting group Slimming World has nominated the Mildenhall branch as one of its six best for this year out of more than 7,000 groups worldwide.
Donna Cooper, who has run the group for 16 years, said she was shaking after she heard the news.
“We really seem to have been on a roll lately with personal success, but this is just unbelievable and recognises the whole group.
“This group has come so far and we are obviously helping more and more people come to their targets,” she said.
More than 150 members attend over the three sessions every Tuesday at Mildenhall Community Centre in St John’s Road – losing 500 stone between them last year.
Donna broke the news to the group on Tuesday and a round of applause was followed by heartfelt praise for the dedicated organiser.
Tony Philcox, 66, who is unable to eat certain foodsbecause of Parkinson’s Disease, said Donna’s support was invaluable in helping him lose three and a half stone since joining four years ago.
“She comes round my house and tells me what I should and shouldn’t eat and she never nags if I’ve put weight on,” he said.
Tina Pasicznyk, a Mildenhall resident who has lost three stone since joining, said: “Donna’s caring more than anything and always supportive.
“If you need help you can always call her and she’s there.”
The winner will be announced on June 18.
