It was the year before World War One began, the year after the Titanic sank, and the year Grace Watson was born.
Yesterday (28) saw Grace celebrate her 100th birthday with family, friends and nursing staff at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.
“It nice to see them all,” said Grace who lives at the Blackbourne View sheltered housing scheme in Ixworth.
Prior to that her and her husband Colin, who died last year aged 97, had lived in Thurston for about 15 years.
Grace is originally from the Forest Gate and Ilford areas of London.
She said there was no secret to her long life, not that she is telling anyway.
She met her husband at a church function and they married in 1939.
He served in the RAF while Grace, who before the war had worked as a secretary, stayed at home and looked after their daughter Margaret Gardiner.
Her daughter, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren joined Grace to celebrate her birthday at the hospital where she is being treated for a broken leg.
