GOOD Friday was marked by Christians in Bury St Edmunds with a walk of witness.
About 600 Christians of various denominations took part in the walk, carrying a cross from St Edmundsbury Cathedral, through the town to Charter Square, outside The Apex.
Phil Hymers, chairman of Unity Working Group of Churches Together, who organised the walk, said: “It’s an event where Christians witness their faith in Christ.
“It’s a powerful statement – marking the true meaning of Good Friday and bringing that to people in the town.”
Good Friday marks the day Christ was crucified before being resurrected on Easter Sunday.
Mr Hymers said: “Obviously the commercial side of Easter and Christmas is in danger of submerging what the true meaning is – Good Friday is a very important day for us.”
