RESIDENTS on a large Stowmarket estate have set up their own management group to combat high charges.
Home owners on the Uplands development – part of the Cedars Park estate – have set up a residents’ management company to take over from OM Property Management (OM), which currently charges households to maintain the area’s public spaces.
Roger Willison-Gray, chairman of Cedars Park Residents’ Association, said: “OM has very high management charges which have doubled over the last year. OM has done a poor job of carrying out the maintenance work and has failed to provide accounts.”
Residents have invoked their ‘right to manage’ and have given formal notice to the management company, which is part of the Peverel Group. The board of directors was appointed in June and the official handover from OM to the residents will take place on August 31.
“There will be a transitional period but residents can look forward to lower bills and an improved service,” said Mr Willison-Gray.
OM took over management of the site from Solitaire Property Management in January 2011.
An OM spokesman said: “We understand how important a person’s home is to them and for nearly 30 years have taken great pride in the service we offer thousands of properties that we manage in the UK.
“We take any complaints we receive extremely seriously. Our team aims to deliver the highest level of service at all times.
“We were extremely sorry to learn of the decision by the recently appointed directors of Uplands Management (2008) Ltd to terminate our management agreement.”
OM said that the delay in finalising the accounts came from the ‘difficulty in completion’ of 2009 accounts which were delayed due to ‘administrative challenges’ passed on from Solitaire. The 2010 accounts will be issued later this month.
