Records have been smashed and more women than ever before will support St Nicholas Hospice Care by taking part in Girls Night Out.

The hospice reached its target of having more than 1,000 women walk through the town in their pyjamas just days before Saturday’s event.

Jenny Baskett, St Nicholas Hospice Care events and challenges fund-raiser, said: “We are delighted to have reached the 1,000-mark.

“Reaching this milestone means this year’s Girls Night Out is sure have a fantastic party atmosphere – I can’t wait for Saturday night!”

Girls Night Out is the hospice’s biggest annual fund-raiser.

Participants will gather on Angel Hill from 7.30pm to be issued with flashing bunny ears and enjoy a group warm-up, before setting off at 8pm.

Jenny said: “What a great local community achievement this is – from all the women who are taking part to everyone who has offered their help in other ways.

“Now, I appeal for other members of the community to support our walkers, as they have always done in the past.

“If you live along the route, please give the women a cheer and a clap as they go past your house. Or, if you are driving in town and see any walkers, please give them a friendly toot as you drive past.”
