DETAILS about major gas works that are to be carried out in Bury St Edmunds will be given to residents at an information evening later this month.
National Grid is inviting residents and traders to the event from 7pm to 10pm on March 16 at the Athenaeum.
The work is due to start on April 4 and will last for a year. It will see the replacement of 3.4 kilometres of old metal gas mains with a new hard-wearing plastic pipe which National Grid says should last for 80 years if left undisturbed.
Petch Close, Westgate Street, Mustow Street, Well Street, Cannon Street, Cannonfields, Brentgovel Street, Looms Lane, Lower Baxter Street, Crown Street, Darby’s Court, Long Brackland, Honey Hill, Ipswich Court and Ipswich Street will all be affected.
The gas works will also affect St Johns Street, Eastgate Street, Guildhall Street, Northgate Street, The Vinefields, Cornhill, Angel Hill, Cotton Lane, College Street, and Central Walk.
Chris Naylor, construction operations engineer, said: “This is essential gas pipe replacement work which will ensure everyone can continue to relay on a safe and secure gas network for years to come.”
