A SECRET side of Thetford went on show at the weekend as residents’ gardens were opened up to the public.
The Thetford Open Gardens event was held over the weekend, with proceeds going to St Nicholas Hospice Care.
More than £3,700 was raised, with more to come from future events.
Liz Hodgson, organiser, said the day showed off another side of the town.
“The gardens are hidden because you have no idea what is behind a hedge, fence or house.
“I think it shows a side of Thetford which is much nicer than people may think,” she said.
The event saw 36 gardens open up to the public, with visitors able to buy a programme of the participant households.
An array of gardens were on show, including riverside gardens, courtyards and household ‘family’ gardens, according to Ms Hodgson.
Elizabeth Truss, MP for South West Norfolk, also attended the event on Sunday with her family and was joined briefly by Terry Lamb, Mayor of Thetford.
Fund-raising for St Nicholas Hospice Care will continue when Lady Fisher opens her gardens in Kilverstone.
The gardens will open from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday. Cream teas will be available.
The event will be signposted from Kilverstone village.
