TUCKED away courtyards and gardens put on a fascinating show for plant and shrub lovers as the 25th Bury St Edmunds Open Gardens event was held at the weekend.
The weather was kind to visitors and hosts alike as rain held off until the day-long event closed on Sunday having raised a whopping £17,400 for St Nicholas Hospice Care.
Three new venues made up the 37 gardens on show, a Victorian grotto garden in Hatter Street and a garden in Garland Street along with the St Edmunds BMI Hospital, in Westgate Stree,t which showed off its grounds and provided tea and cakes to swell the coffers.
As well as enjoying the hard work of the homeowners there was also impromptu music provided at a number of homes.
Isobel Ashton, who with Elizabeth Barber-Lomax organised the day, said: “We are extremely pleased with all the efforts people have made to raise this money, It is just fantastic.
“I would like to say a very big thankyou to all the people who came along as well as those who opened their gardens.”
