The funeral of a much-admired Bury St Edmunds community figure is to take place next week.
Tributes have continued to flood in following news of Mike Ames’ death last Tuesday.
The 77-year-old was well known for his work as a town and borough councillor, teacher and In Bloom chairman.
Stefan Oliver, chairman of Bury Town Council, said of the ‘larger than life’ man: “His flamboyant and colourful wardrobe, in itself, was enough to evoke awe and amusement from all, but a close encounter of the enthusiastic character within was a tonic and stimulation for everyone who met him.”
The funeral will take place at St Edmund’s Roman Catholic Church, in Westgate Street, on Friday at 11am. A civic procession will leave the Athenaeum at 10.35am, walk to Chequer Square, up Churchgate Street, along Bridewell Lane and past Guildhall Feoffment School to the church.
