A DEMENTIA support worker is to go that extra mile to raise funds for her charity.
Emily Robertson, 27, aims to collect more than £1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society by running the 26.2-mile Brighton marathon in April.
As part of her job with the charity in Bury, she helps people with dementia and their family carers through home visits and telephone contact.
She also runs support groups in Mildenhall and Brandon and helps with a weekly group in Bury.
Miss Robertson said: “With social care services being cut, it is the work of charities and people’s generosity that will enable the Alzheimer’s Society to help people affected by dementia to maintain as good a quality a life as possible.
“Working for the society, I understand how much of a difference donations can make to people in the local community.” Last year she raised £650 from a skydive.
The event in April will be her first marathon.
She added: “I’m going to be nervous on the day but I’ve got to use that energy to get across the finish line.”
