THE year-old Abbey Gardens Friends will be showcasing their activities and holding a plant sale on Sunday.

The friends will be at the Gathering Place near the Abbey Gardens’ play area between 11am and 3pm.

The group has about 70 members who support the work of the gardens’ professional staff and are supervised by those staff.

One of the projects they will be involved in during this the 100th anniversary year of the Bury St Edmunds gardens becoming a public park is the creation of a woodland walk near the Abbots Bridge and wild bird feeding area.

The group’s next regular volunteer meeting in the gardens is on Wednesday and then the first and third Wednesdays of the month through the summer, except on Jubilee day.
