Friends of murder victim Mary Griffiths gathered for a group photograph at a Bury St Edmunds beauty spot to show her daughters how much they miss her.

Joined by Mary’s parents, her friends met at Nowton Park to display the strength of feeling for the 38-year-old mother, who was murdered in front of her girls by John McFarlane in 2009.

The group raised £14,000 for The Friends of Mary Fund with £1,000 spent on sending her daughters Jess, 18, Hannah, 15, and Sophie, 14, to Ireland to see their grandparents shortly after Mary was killed.

The Fund is now closed and the money transferred to Mary’s family for the girls.

Organiser Karen Bergdahl, whose daughter Ellen was at school with Jess, said: “The photograph (taken by Allison Johnson) will be given to the girls to show them how much we still think of Mary, love her and have them and her in our thoughts.” Her parents Kitty and Joe Ryan, of Dublin, Ireland, who attended with Mary’s aunt and uncle, said: “We really felt we had to come to thank them all so much for all their fund-raising. They’ve been fantastic.”
