Free School gets final thumbs up

A PIONEERING free school is now ready to go after it cleared the final hurdle in the application process.

The IES Breckland school in Brandon will take over the Breckland Middle School site in September.

Initial approval for the school was given in December last year but the plans were rubber-stamped last Friday when a funding agreement was reached with the Secretary of State for Education.

Jodie King, manager of IES UK, said: “Getting to this stage of the opening process was not guaranteed and it has been the overwhelming enthusiasm of local people for this school that has helped us to get where we are today.

“I am confident that we have taken tough but correct decisions for the good of the school, to offer outstanding education here in Brandon with the curriculum, principal and staff all in place.”

Ms King added that work will now be carried out to connect the school to the community.

Sherry Zand is the school’s new principal.

Prospective parents and students will be able to meet school staff on June 9 at Brandon Leisure Centre.

Lessons will start on September 10 after inductions take place the week before.
