A former hotel manager has been jailed for 18 months after twice having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
Timothy Johnson, 36, had pleaded guilty at Ipswich Crown Court to two offences of sexual activity with a child.
The court heard yesterday how last July, Johnson, then manager of a Bury St Edmunds hotel, had given the girl a lift home then twice had sex with her.
Prosecutor Michael Crimp said Johnson of Church Close, Rede, was arrested after the girl told a friend what had happened and details reached a support worker.
Mr Crimp said the girl initially denied anything had happened when confronted by her mother but later revealed it had and the police were contacted.
In mitigation, Joanne Eley said Johnson had no previous convictions and because of the offences had lost his job at the hotel where he had had worked for three years.
Johnson had never before shown interest in under-age girls said Miss Eley, and this had been ‘impulsive behaviour’ for which he was remorseful and ashamed.
Miss Eley said that though the girl had produced condoms, Johnson accepted he had been an adult and must take responsibilty for his own actions.
Jailing him for 18 months, Judge John Holt told Johnson he accepted his expressions of remorse were genuine.
Johnson has been ordered to sign on the Sexual Offences Register fort the next 10 years.
