ORGANISERS of this year’s Abbey Fest have announced their first headline act as Bellowhead, the leading band on the folk circuit who will play the Abbey Gardens on Friday, July 20.
This is the second year for the event staged by OEP Live! promotions who plan to announce further acts as they are signed.
Bellowhead is an 11-piece collective of musicians who bring music from around the world blending big band, soul and classical with English traditional music.
The band’s performance promises to have people dancing in the gardens and promises to be a sell out event.
The group’s latest album Hedonism, released in October, has sold 60,000 albums.
John Hessenthaler, who has been promoting concerts for many years, said: “Bellowhead are league leaders in music which is very much coming through into the main stream.
“Bury has such a great catchment area. It’s central in East Anglia and close enough to Cambridge, Ipswich and Norwich and the Abbey Gardens lends itself to this kind of thing.
“I think there’s a need for this sort of event and so far no-one has been promoting it here.”
This year audiences will be able to access the concert through the main Abbey Gate entrance rather than Mustow Street.
There will be a bar and food stands.
Last year’s Abbey Fest had audiences of around 2,000 people at each of its concerts and this year John promises some strong names in guest acts which will support the headliners which will be announced over the coming weeks and months.
Abbey Fest takes place on July 20, Saturday, July 21, and Sunday, July 22.
Tickets are available from Balaam’s Music, in Risbygate Street, or 01603 508050 with early riser tickets at £29.50 and children £15.
