Fire crews have been fighting a scrub blaze in 10,000 square metres of land near Thetford.
Seven crews from Norfolk and Suffolk and the Unimog from Suffolk were called to land near Harling Drove and the A134 between Thetford and Mundford to reports of smoke.
Police were forced to block the A134 as the smoke made for dangerous visibility.
Karl Hain, crew manager, said high winds had spread the flames quickly after the fire was called in just before 3.30pm.
He said he thought the crews would be on the scene ‘for hours’ but that the police were set to open one lane of traffic on the A134 to ease congestion.
