Suffolk’s most talented young musicians have been hitting all the right notes as they compete to become West Suffolk Young Musician 2016.

All the heat winners will compete for the coveted title at the Finalists’ Concert to be held on Monday, July 4 at The Apex, Bury St Edmunds.

Heats were held over two nights at the Performing Arts Centre at Bury’s County Upper School and were split into five performance categories : voice, woodwind, brass, strings and piano.

Due to considerable success and its own sell out Finalists’ Concert in 2015, the West Suffolk Young Jazz Musician Competition is also making a comeback for 2016.

The Finalists’ Concert will be held on Friday July 8 at The Hunter Club.

Chair of the Competitions Committee, Lois Hinsley, said:
“The competition gives young musicians across West Suffolk the chance to perform in great venues and often leads to other performance opportunities too.”

Last year’s winner, Liliana Luongo, is one such example of young talent making the most of the opportunities which the previous years’ competition has afforded her.

Luongo is set to wow audiences as the clarinet soloist in the Bury Friendly Orchestra’s concert which will be held on Sunday, February 28 at The Apex.

With eighteen finalists, seven different instruments and a host of experienced musicians, teachers and performers set to judge, it is fair to say that the heats have left the young hopefuls with everything to play for.
