RESIDENTS at a care home in Stowmarket raised £1,000 by holding their first summer fete at the weekend.

Staff and residents at Hillcroft House organised the fete, on Saturday, to raise money for activities and days out.

Cllr Debbie Ball, Mayor of Stowmarket, opened the event which had to close just an hour later due to rain.

But that didn’t stop the residents from raising £1,007 by selling home-made crafts, cakes and pickles.

There were also bric-a-brac stalls and a chance to soak the manager.

Geoff Jones ran a book stall and donated the £50 he raised to the British Lung Foundation in memory of his late wife.

Heather Choat, home manager, said: “We all had a fantastic day and it went really well.”
