WITH Christmas approaching, the time has arrived for the focal points of Bury St Edmunds’ festive season to be chosen.

For the first time, the ‘privilege’ of selecting the town’s Christmas trees belonged to Bid4Bury’s chief executive Mark Cordell, who spent Thursday at Blackthorpe Barn, where the trees are grown.

Rougham Estate has donated a tree for The Traverse, while Elveden Estate has donated a tree for Angel Hill.

“It’s extremely generous of them to donate trees to the town and it was an important role for me to choose the two trees because they’re going to be figureheads of the Christmas decorations,” said Mr Cordell, adding that he had much planned for the Christmas Lights Switch On event on Thursday, November 17, when a large number of business will stay open until 8pm.
