TICKETS for the 2011 Bury St Edmunds Festival are selling quickly as news spreads about May’s packed programme of events.
Sales for the Abbey Gardens gigs have been especially busy as Festival- goers prepare to party during the opening weekend, with tribute acts Take That and Robbie and Blues Brothers’ Jake and Elwood.
Festival manager Nick Wells said: “Tickets have been selling really well from day one. There’s a lot of interest in Take That because of the band’s recent reunion and new album, so I’m delighted to have booked a tribute band that the real Jason Orange praised as being ‘brilliant, better than us’.”
Other top-selling events include Black Dyke Band, Jan Garbarek and the Hilliard Ensemble, Evelyn Glennie, Staff Benda Bilili, English Chamber Orchestra, Penguin Café and the new Festival Walks series.
Lunchtime sessions at The Apex are also proving popular, particularly the Sainsbury Royal Academy Soloists and the Chinese Silk and Bamboo Ensemble.
