The Federation of Small Businesses East Anglia has called for the Government to give firms protection from rising energy costs.

It comes after energy watchdog Ofgem called for increased consumer protection in the domestic market.

Robin Twigge, chairman of the FSB East Anglia said: “The Government needs to give small firms the same level of protection as domestic consumers.”

He runs a Norfolk Hotel and said it uses similar if not higher levels of energy as domestic consumers.

Mr Twigge said energy costs are ‘One of my biggest expenses’.

“We can suffer with difficulty in switching suppliers and unfair contract terms are far more pronounced in the small business energy market so it is only fair that we are afforded the same level of protection,” Mr Twigge said.
