LONG-SERVING farm employees were rewarded for their commitment to Suffolk agriculture at the Suffolk Show.
On the first day of the event, Suffolk Agricultural Association (SAA), which organises the show, handed out awards to members of the farming community who had worked for one employer for more than 30, 50 and 60 years.
Certificates were awarded to 20 farm employees marking a combined 992 years of service .
Speaking at the presentation Nigel Merriam, a former director of the SAA, said: “It takes a reasonable, understanding employer and a good guy to work for him – over the years we have had a lot of long service people receive their certificates.”
Six farm employees from this region received long-service certificates: Brian Howard, Elveden Farms Ltd, Elveden – 30 years; Stewart Cross, Elveden Farms Ltd, Elveden – 45 years; David Steed, E Mitsons and Sons, Buxhall – 35 years; Reginald Flack, Elveden Farms Ltd, Elveden – 50 years; Ian Flack, Elveden Farms Ltd, Elveden, – 50 years; Derek Webb, Fenning & Baker (Poultry) Ltd, Stowmarket – 50 years.
Michael Douglas, Elveden Farms Ltd, estate manager, said: “We are proud to have so many long-serving members of staff working at Elveden – their experience and knowledge is invaluable.”
Dr Philip Draycott ,of Wickhambroom, also received a special open award for his services to agriculture.
