A SWIMMING instructor who beat diabetes has been making a fancy dress splash for charity this week.

Sarah Stokes, an instructor at Mildenhall Swimming Pool, overcame the illness in less than a year after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes last October.

Sarah weighed 18 stone at the time but after adopting a strict fitness regime and diet she is now five stone lighter and has reversed her condition.

Now Sarah is helping others fight the scales by holding a Beat Diabetes Week from Monday until tomorrow.

Organised with the help of Anglia Community Leisure and staff at Mildenhall Swimming Pool, the week kicked off with a fancy dress water workout run by Sarah.

She said: “Many of our customers down at the pool are diabetic – both adults and children – and now that I have managed to beat the illness I want to help other people to do the same.”
