St Edmundsbury Cathedral will be opening its doors for an exclusive event in support of Bury St Edmunds-based drug and alcohol rehabilitation charity Focus12.
The ball, being hosted by pub retailer and brewer Greene King and cider maker Aspall, marks only the second time the cathedral has offered its nave as a venue for an external event.
Andy Yacoub, chief executive of Focus12, said: “We are all extremely excited about this event and are thrilled that St Edmundsbury Cathedral has offered the use of this breathtaking landmark as a backdrop for what will be a spectacular evening.”
He added: “For two of Suffolk’s much loved breweries to endorse our work in this way is a very brave step for them and a real indication of their genuine and enthusiastic commitment to their social responsibility.”
The Rev Canon Matthew Vernon of St Edmundsbury Cathedral said: “The holiness of the Cathedral is expressed each day in our regular services and worship, but also in serving the local community and people struggling with the burdens of life. It is therefore a privilege for us to support Focus12 and their outstanding work.”
The ball, on May 1, will include a drinks and canapé reception, a four course meal, charity auction and live entertainment, including live music and a set from renowned mentalist and illusionist, Doug Segal.
Tickets are available from the Greene King Visitor Centre on 01284 714297.
An online auction will run alongside the event with lots including a signed, limited edition, photograph of Focus12 patron, Russell Brand, taken by celebrity photographer, Scarlet Page.
All proceeds will go directly to Focus12 to help it support families in crisis.
