Emily Ford spends her time catching crooks, so it is only right that her four-legged friend would be a hunting dog.

The Stowmarket police woman is the proud owner of Agnes, a chocolate 16-month-old smooth-haired standard-size dachshund - part of a breed which was originally developed to hunt badgers by trailing scent.

Fed up with the lack of ‘sausage dog’ events taking place in West Suffolk, Emily, a member of the Dachshunds in Suffolk and Norfolk Facebook group, decided to organise a West Suffolk Sausage Dog Saunter at Nowton Park, Bury St Edmunds, on September 13.

“I just thought it would be nice for these dogs to get together and enjoy each other’s company,” she said.

Any dachshund owners interested in taking part in the free ‘leads on’ walk are asked to meet at the park’s cafe at 11am.
