ELEPHANT behaviourist June Billings travelled to Colchester Zoo in a car overflowing with fruit and vegetables last Saturday.

June, 61, of Mildenhall, spent the day clearing out the elephant enclosure and feeding the animals with produce donated by Sainsbury’s.

June said: “I had a great deal of fun, I cleared up the poo then went outside and Opal came round and had a feed.”

“She wanted the food thrown in her mouth – but I missed and she gave me a little look as if to say ‘oh I have to pick it up myself do I?’.”

The event was part of a year of fund-raising by June to raise money for Cancer Research, Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation and Boon Lotts Elephant Sanctuary – so far she has raised £2,250..
