Youngsters given a lesson in Sikhism

THE teachings and practices of Sikhism was the focus of a multicultural afternoon at Barningham Primary School.
Pupils learnt about the religion when they welcomed Harkirat Singh, an officer from the Sikh Education Service.
Mr Singh held an assembly, where he talked about what it means to be a Sikh, sang a prayer and showcased a musical instrument.
The children then took part in three activities with Key Stage One focusing on the purpose of the turban.
Meanwhile, Key Stage Two learnt about the Five Ks, which are five symbols Sikhs should wear, and the Foundationers listened to a story.
Headteacher Frances Parr said: “Key Stage One had been looking at India last term and it linked in nicely. As a church school, it’s very important to understand other faiths.”
