PUPILS are ready to deck the halls with wreaths of holly after getting creative at their school.

Children and parents at Thurston Primary School produced the wreaths as well as table decorations during festive workshops.

The activities involved Alison Findlay, from the Royal Horticultural Society, and every pupil made something to take home.

Other Christmas-themed events at the school included performances of plays Manger Mouse and the Little Matchseller’s Christmas and a trip to see the pantomime Mother Goose at the Theatre Royal.

Meanwhile, pupils in Year 4 also took part in a competition to design a poster encouraging people to clean up after their dogs.

The contest was organised by Thurston Parish Council.

Winning designs will be made into signs to be displayed in the village.

The winners, who each received a £20 WH Smith gift card, were Chaleigh Golding, Holly Elvin, Oliver Thompson and Ross Aitichison.

Runners-up, who won a £5 WH Smith gift card, were Talitha Gower, Maisy Cailes, Scott Button, Abby Woolston and Kristian Giles.
