A topping out ceremony is being held on February 28 to mark the completion of a brand new building at West Suffolk College.

For some months work has been going on to create the new building alongside the college’s main car park. This has cost £7.5million and has been funded by the college’s own reserves and loan funding.

The main entrance to the site haa been redesigned to lead visitors to a reception area in the new building which is creating a completely new frontage onto Out Risbygate Street.

The building will house a new reception along with student service facilities, extra recreational space, more than 20 new classrooms and staff rooms.

This will free up room at Suffolk House for University Campus Suffolk.

The new building has been designed by Pick Everard and the construction is being done by ISG, formerly ISG Jackson of Ipswich.

The college will also be investing in refurbishing Gibraltar House to acccomodate the school of computing and there will be some internal remodelling at Suffolk House to provide more HE classrooms, a large common room and study area.

The college is also aiming to build a major new engineering centre on its main campus and is in the process of applying for funding from the College Capital Inestment Fund.
