Students with learning and physical difficulties at West Suffolk College have gained a variety of skills through a council-led work experience programme.
The 18 to 19-year-olds from the Bury St Edmunds college gained catering experience, enjoyed landscaping in the Abbey Gardens, helped on the West Suffolk House reception, worked in the post room and with communications officers.
It was part of Suffolk County Council’s ‘Rising High’ programme - developed through its Raising the Bar initiative.
Cllr Lisa Chambers, cabinet member for education, is now urging businesses across the county to offer placements. She said: “Well planned and effectively organised work placements are a significant step in preparing young people for adult and working life.”
