Trio invited to think tank

THREE Thetford teachers have been asked by an influential think tank to give their views on how maths should be taught in the UK.

On Wednesday, MP Elizabeth Truss took Thetford Academy’s three Canadian maths teachers – Samantha Renaud, Alex Cox and Dan Brown – to talk to the Reform think tank.

With the Canadian teaching model seen as one of the best in the world, the trio were called in to give their views on whether it can be replicated in this country.

The UK is currently 28th in the OECD’s International Student Assessment’s rankings for maths education.

Ms Truss said it was important that the UK learned from Canada’s example.

“It is fortunate that these teachers are providing their experience at Thetford Academy.

“We really need to equip our young people with the best education in order to give them the best start in the working world,” he said.

Mark Neild, Thetford Academy’s head of maths, also attended. He said the school was ‘very proud’ of the impact the Canadian teachers had had at the academy.
