There’s just no beat-ing Samba
Abbots Green Community Primary school have just started Samba this term
WHILe recorders are commonplace in most primary schools, for pupils at Abbots Green there is just no beat-ing Samba.
On Friday, Year 2 pupils at the Airfield Road school, on the Moreton Hall estate, were introduced to the surdo drum, the largest of the six drums they will be taught to play over the next six weeks.
By half term, under the direction of a Suffolk County Music Service tutor, the children will be expected to play all of the instruments together during a whole class performance to parents.
Becky Lynch, assistant head and Year 2 teacher, said the music lessons built on ideas from the school’s culture week.
“It just grabs their attention because it’s so different - they love hearing the sounds of the drums,” she said.
