A FAMILY has thanked staff at a school’s hearing impaired unit by raising cash through a sponsored cycle ride.

Kay Brown’s son Darnell, nine, was born profoundly deaf and has been going to the unit at Westgate Primary School in Bury St Edmunds since her was nine.

“He is in his final year there before he goes up to Westley Middle and we wanted to do something to say a big thank you for all they have done for him,” said Kay who lives in Brandon.

On Thursday her partner David Hawes and his friend Matt Phillips cycled from Brandon to the school, raising nearly £680 towards a camera so the school can video the children’s progress in the unit.
