A bid to set up a Free School on the site of a soon to be axed village middle school has been given the go-ahead by the Government.
An application by the Seckford Foundation and a parent group to establish the school on the site of Ixworth Middle was approved by the Department for Education.
It was selected instead of a rival Free School bid by the Church of England and Thurston Partnership.
Stephen Larder, spokesman for the parent group, said: “We’re very relieved and happy. It’s the biggest step towards seeing the school open.”
The Free School is due to open in September 2014.
