Safety concern over bus

CONCERNS have been raised over the risks posed to children by a bus driving down a ‘narrow’ village road.

Parents at Great Barton Primary School have signed a petition regarding the 304 bus driving along School Road at 8.45am.

The bus collects children attending secondary school.

Philip Reeve, chairman of the village parish council, confirmed that they were to consult with bosses at Suffolk County Council over the matter.

He said: “The bus is travelling down School Road at a time when parents are dropping off their children. If you look at the width of the road and parked vehicles it’s very difficult to get a coach or HGV down there so it has to mount the pavement which causes a great deal of concern amongst parents. The parents canvassed each other and got together a signature list. We’re now in consultation with the county council.”

Sarah Rees, head of Great Barton Primary, added: “The road is rather narrow and it isn’t safe for everybody. The school supports having somewhere safer for the older children to wait. School Road is too congested to have a bus coming down when parents are dropping off young children.”
