Reaching for infinity and beyond

A TEAM of budding rocket scientists are looking for a boost to launch them to victory.

Team Euphoria, comprising five Stowmarket High School Year 11 pupils, is on a mission to gain support for its bid to build a rocket for the UK Aerospace Youth Rocketry Challenge.

Charlie Gooderham, Joe Smith, Nick Atherton, Maisie Lee and Tom Search have embarked on a journey to reach for the stars.

The team has entered the nationwide competition challenging them to build and launch a small rocket 750ft in the air. The rocket must then safely return to the ground undamaged, carrying an egg inside.

Charlie, 16, from Stowmarket, said: “To win the competition would be great for us and for the school and the satisfaction of seeing a tiny tube rocket flying more than 700ft in the air will be quite impressive.”

The team is looking to local businesses and organisations as possible sponsors to fund the project and competition costs.

Nick, 15, from Onehouse, said: “We need a lot of money to put into this to get it started. In return we will advertise on the rocket and in any way we can.”

The team is working towards the qualifiers in March. Twenty teams will then go through to the final.

The 2010 winners received a trip to a US space centre.
