Pupils create 3D sea creatures

SCHOOL pupils were struck by waves of creativity when they produced sea creature inspired artworks.

Nearly 60 children at Thurston Primary School used pliers and different types of wire to build the 3D objects which ranged from starfish to sharks.

The work was created at a workshop following a visit to the Artworks exhibition at Blackthorpe Barn in Rougham.

The exhibition featured a range of contemporary pieces by artists in various media.

One of the artists, Jenny Goater, led the workshop with the seven to nine year olds.

Louise McGregor, Year Three teacher at Thurston Primary, said: “The children loved it.

“Jenny was one of their favourite artists at the exhibition.

“We were lucky that she was able to come in and work with them.

“It was such a nice activity because the work was so instant.”

The Artworks exhibition is an annual event, which celebrates its 12th anniversary this year, and runs for three weeks from September 10 to October 2.

The exhibition gives people the chance to see and buy new and original contemporary work in various media and styles.

Blackthorpe Barn was built in 1550.
