PUPILS have been helping to make sure some of the world’s poorest regions have access to clean water after organising a sponsored fun run.

Children in Year 3 at Risby Primary School planned the 2km run around the village field to raise funds for WaterAid, which works in Africa, Asia and the Pacific region to enable people to get safe water, hygiene and sanitation.

Sixty students, including Year 4, took part in the event in fancy dress and decorated T-shirts.

They later held a cake sale – after writing letters to parents asking them to make goodies – to amass more money for the organisation.

Christine Anthony, Year 3 class teacher, said: “They are doing water as a topic and they’ve really enjoyed organising these events. Writing the letters has really helped them with their writing skills.”
