Thetford Academy awards do. 102 The West Suffolk Prize for Excellence in Vocational Learning - Augusto Alves & Dr Ann Williams

PRINCIPAL of West Suffolk College Dr Ann Williams was yesterday visting Buckingham Palace to receive her OBE for services to education.

Dr Williams was awarded the honour in The Queen’s Birthday Honours last year.

Dr Williams has been college principal since 2002 and has spent her working life there since joining as a part-time lecturer in 1979.

Her citation states that she has led the college’s growth, including pioneering the introduction of vocational provision for 14-16-year-olds and championing provision for students with learning difficulties.

She has also played a leading role as a member of University Campus Suffolk and enabled the college to be one of the region’s largest training providers to business.

The college was judged outstanding under Ofsted scrutiny and was awarded Beacon status for excellent teaching and learning.

Dr Williams has also helped to develop the new Thetford Academy.

She will be featured in our next in depth interview in the Bury Free Press.
