AN OLYMPIC sled designer was the guest of honour for an awards presentation at her former school.

Rachel Blackburn, 28, returned to King Edward VI School, in Bury St Edmunds, to give a talk and hand out a variety of awards.

She designed a skeleton sled – nicknamed Arthur – which catapulted Amy Williams to Britain’s first Winter Olympics gold in 30 years.

Mrs Blackburn left King Edward VI to study ship science at Southampton University almost a decade ago.

Head Geoff Barton said: “Rachel was a great student who showed a real aptitude for sailing and we’re thrilled to see that she took that knowledge and applied it to such great effect. We were delighted to have her as guest of honour.

“Rachel was hugely inspiring and attendance was the best we’ve ever known for a presentation evening.”
