Nick delivers a special story treat
Nick Dowson, author children's book, North, visited St Mary's School in Mildenhall
A GROUP of primary school pupils were given a special story-time this week when a children’s author read from his new book.
Author and naturalist Nick Dowson treated pupils at St Mary’s Church of England Academy, in Mildenhall, to a reading from his new book, North: The Greatest Animal Journey on Earth, on Monday.
Bridget Harrison, the school’s Key Stage 2 leader, said the visit had been an inspiration to pupils.
“The children relished the opportunity to ask Nick questions about the book and his life as an author.
“It was a brilliant day and the children were inspired to develop as readers and writers,” she said.
The book follows the journey of a variety of animals, including walruses and whales, as they migrate to the Arctic for the summer months.
Theo Turner, a Year 5 student, said: “I was fascinated to discover how long it takes writers to complete a book and have it published.”
Antonia Stephenson, also in Year 5, said: “I really enjoyed hearing Nick tell us information about the illustrator of the book, Patrick Benson.”
After the reading, Mr Dowson invited parents and children to a signing session at the school.
