Lawshall Pre-school

Staff at Lawshall Pre-school have been praised for outstanding levels of care, organisation and provision in their latest Ofsted report.

Inspectors were so pleased with the unit in the grounds of All Saints' School, they made no recommendations for further improvement.

Caring relationships with staff and fellow pupils help the 31 children at the group achieve well and enjoy what they do, according to the inspector.

The report said: "Children are confident and settled within this pre-school. They develop caring relationships towards each other and are often seen greeting their friends on arrival with a hug and a cheerful smile."

Children's understanding of healthy measures such as hand washing and germs were also found to be outstanding in the inspection during November last year.

Healthy snacks such as fruit and breadsticks are offered to the young pupils, who pour their own drinks and help set the table for their mid-morning snacks.

A chart of each child's likes and dislikes is compiled by staff with parents to create a set of personal targets for each pupil.

But inspectors found differences between the less and more able students were not fully planned for all activities and additional stimulation for the more gifted children was not always applied.

Children's knowledge of maths, language and the natural world were found to be well promoted and their knowledge of other cultures and customs had improved since the last inspection.

Ruth Duchesne, joint leader of the group, said: "We are all so proud and so pleased with the report.

"We have put in a huge amount of work behind the scenes to make sure we provide the best possible care for our children we can."
