Improvements planned for school
The effectiveness of a Brandon primary school has slipped over the past few years, an Ofsted report has found.
A May inspection of The Glade Community Primary School, in Knappers Way, found the school provided a satisfactory education, with weaknesses in pupils' reading, writing and maths skills, some cases of inadequate teaching and issues with absence.
The report said: "Leaders recognise, rightly, that a greater proportion of good teaching is required if pupils are to achieve well in all classes.
"Levels of unauthorised and persistent absence are too high and too many pupils take holidays in term time."
Aspects of pupils' development were good, including staff-pupil relationships and the behaviour of pupils in lessons as well as around school and it said the new headteacher and deputy provide 'drive, ambition and a strong commitment'.
Headteacher Andrew Smith said the report was a 'fair reflection' and that a number of 'priorities for improvement' had been identified before the inspection and an action plan was already in place to raise standards.
