A SUFFOLK High School has received a £20,000 grant as part of an EU scheme to create partnerships across Europe.

Stowmarket High School is taking part in a two-year project funded by the European Commission’s Comenius programme. The project will see students and teachers from German school Eckenberg-Gymnasium visiting Stowmarket from November 25. Students will take it in turns to write a chapter of a novel set in the Second World War with German students writing chapters about the Blitz and Stowmarket students writing about the Bombing of Dresden.

Lara Burgess, head of German at the school, said: “Aside from the deeper cultural and historical understanding that our students will gain from the opportunity, we hope that they will build friendships and memories which will last them a lifetime.”
