Good rating for school as behaviour is praised

The model behaviour of pupils at Lakenheath Primary School has been praised by Ofsted inspectors.

Their consideration towards each other was one of the factors which lead to the Mill Road school receiving a 'good' rating from its latest inspection.

Headteacher Nicola Harrison, said: "We are delighted that the hard work of all our pupils and staff has been praised.

"The school is pleased that the report recognises the improvements since the last inspection and looks forward to building on the good rating judgement in the future."

The Mill Road school, caters for 200 children aged four to nine. During the inspection, the achievement of pupils, their understanding of cultural diversity, the quality of teaching and the role of the governing body was assessed.

The report, written by inspector David Speakman, said: "This school has improved significantly since its last inspection. The quality of teaching and learning, use of assessment, the curriculum and leadership and management have improved and are all now good."

The children's behaviour was highlighted in the report. It said: "Pupils have good moral and social development and this can be seen in the social harmony that pervades the school and the calm environment in which pupils learn.

"They appreciate others' feelings and act accordingly."

However improvements were asked for in the children's understanding of a wider range of cultures.

The quality of learning was called 'good', with pupils making progress from Year 1 to Year 2 where they match national averages in reading, writing and maths. By Year 4 they achieve above that expected for their age.

Teaching was also described as 'good or better' with well-planned lessons, and praise was given to the headteacher for creating a 'strong sense of teamwork' among all staff.

The governing body's role in monitoring the school's performance was identified as being under-developed, which it was asked to improve.
