Funds for school changes

COUNCILLORS are tipped to set aside £5.5 million for plans to implement two-tier education in Stowmarket and Stowupland.

Suffolk County Council’s cabinet is being asked to allow the money to be included within the Children and Young People’s services capital programme for 2012-15.

The funds would provide extra classrooms for primary schools to accommodate Years 5 and 6 and additional places at Stowupland High School.

In a report to the cabinet, Frank Stockely, senior infrastructure officer, said: “The schools are keen to progress these proposals and consult during 2012. It is necessary to identify and confirm capital sources before consultation can begin.”

The cabinet will discuss the move on Tuesday.
